New Zealand Pictures

I figured I should show off some pictures of New Zealand. Going there was a lot of fun and I got to meet some wonderful people. Someday, I’ll try to get a post together that tells more about the country, but for now, I’ll just put up a bunch of pictures. (My Facebook friends probably saw these already.)

We didn’t go to Hobbiton since we had other things to do and it looked like a bit of a tourist trap, plus, we’d already visited the battlefield from Return of the King.

On the battlefield from Return of the King. (South Island) I’m the one on the right.

Dairy cattle grazing.

A blue lake. Glacier melt makes the lakes blue.

Milford Sound was amazing. That part of the country looked like something out of The Lost World. (We were on a boat in this picture.)

A waterfall on the sound. The rain here is measured in meters.

This was the budget hobbit hole, aka the info center where tourists headed for Hobbiton are picked up. (North Island)

A waterfall we visited. It was a long hike to get there.

One of the two cool caves we visited. The glow worms are amazing, but not easy to get a good picture of.

A beach on the North Island

There were lots of living creatures on this beach. It was pretty neat.

I didn’t expect to see baby birds in the fall.

Aukland Zoo.

A kia showing off.

It was really cool to be able to see the cheetahs with nothing between them and the visitors.

The cheetahs seemed pretty safe, but I only survived the dragon because of the heroic action of my friend.

About Jessi L. Roberts

I live and work on my family’s cattle ranch in eastern Montana. I have a flock of chickens, a hyper golden retriever, some cows, and a few horses. I enjoy fantasy and science fiction and my head is full of wild sci-fi story ideas, some involving apocalypses and others involving aliens. I have been published twice in Havok Magazine, an imprint of Splickity.
